Teach Me Tuesday, Blogging Anniversary & a giveaway

So 3 years ago today I began this little blog...see my first post here. The idea was to share the happenings on our family farm so others could learn how farmers grow their food and so our family could keep up with our crazy life. The little man was only a year old and not quite into everything. We were still bracing his feet to correct his unilateral club foot and had more irons in the fire than I could count. Here's a few photos from back then...
Wyatt & his first puppy...Buck

Wyatt and his favorite cousins Paige & Scotty now 15 & 18
Wyatt and his best bud...Daddy

Fast forward 3 years... I don't have thousands of fans or even hundreds but I have had a few popular post that have been shared on some very influential sites. I am still a toddler in the blogging world and should really devote more time to growing my blog.

Today I wanted to share with all of you a book I found for little man. It's called "Where's My Cowboy Hat" by Katy Williams. It's a cute little book that follows one young man around his family ranch to find his hat. My little one loves this book and we have read it countless times. He also has done his first book oral report on this book. I asked questions about the story and he gave me some commentary. See below...

Q1 Who is the book about? "Cowboy Sam"

Q2 What was Sam doing
"He was looking for his cowboy hat!"

Q3 Where did Sam live
"He lived on a farm"

Q4 What was your favorite part of the story
"When Sam found his pocket knife and hat"

Q5 Why was that your favorite part of the story
"Because I like pocket knives and cowboy hats"

Q6 Anything else you want to tell me about the story
"Sam had a horse, cows and pocket knife"

Q7 Is this a good book or a bad one
"It's a good book because he loses his cowboy hat. Losing stuff is ok isn't it? Plus he finally found it. I lost my hat before remember. "

Q8 Rate the book on scale 1-10
"It's a 5 cause I like the number 5 when I'm 5 I'll go to big school"

So there you have it his first book report and review! I honestly think this book scores more like a 8.5 but little man like the number 5.

So what am I giving away? A copy of where's my cowboy hat! Just use the raffle copter widget below to enter for your chance to win!

Mommy Monday: June days

In the southeast summer typically starts in late April, however this year we enjoyed a spring of sorts. Until this week we have had one of the coolest June's on's all about to change! We are predicted to break a record high of 102 degrees. I know those of you in Texas are talking 108 or something crazy but 102 with 99% humidity is pretty miserable.

So it's time to head to the pool
play in the dirt
and check out Pop's progress in the hayfield

When we are expecting weather conditions like this we take extra care to ensure fresh clean water is available and do out best to make sure that the water is shaded. We also push our feeding times back around the house to be sure everything eats during the coolest part of the day. As summer wears on we will move feeding time to the morning because that will be the coolest time. At the dairy the misters and fans are in use the entire time we are milking, in addition the fans on the feed barns are running. Keeping livestock as cool as possible is essential. We also have to be diligent about making sure everyone stays hydrated and well fed!

Enjoying lunch in the hayfield

However warm days aren't limited to caring for the livestock.
We check the moisture content of the hay

Love on new barn kitties

Proud Papa

We have a garden to tend...which we have began harvesting some veggies from.

We also try to make sure we are having lots of fun.

like game night at church
playing in the sandbox

picking blueberries at Bush-N-Vine Farm

Checking out how bees make honey

And catching Aunt Rachel...we think she need shots and some ear tags!

And sometime the summer can not be so fun.  Last week Wyatt lost his best friend and playmate JoJo.
RIP JoJo you will be greatly missed!

Life on the farm isn't always fun.  Many times you learn the hard lessons in life early.  Wyatt has been extremely positive through the whole experience.  He has learned that everything lives and eventually everything dies.  This doesn't mean he isn't sad but he is content knowing that JoJo is in cow dog heaven with Jesus, eating all the steaks he can hold and giving everyone kisses.  Just yesterday he talked about missing JoJo's kisses and playing soccer with him.  (I think there have been more tears for Momma than Wyatt over the situation).

Stay tuned for tomorrow!

Until Next Time,
